Dalai Lama once said, “When we meet real tragedy in life, we can react in two ways- either by losing hope and falling into self-destructive habits, or by using the challenge to find our inner strength. Thanks to the teachings of Buddha, I have been able to take this second way”. Now, for this purpose, the part about Buddha is not the most important part of the quote. The easiest way to interpret this quote is to say that yes, there is tragedy. Ro further that, there are two main categories of reactions for a tragedy. The first is to react negatively: losing hope in everything around you and never look at the positive aspects of the situation. The second is to act productively: using the challenge faced to find strength in ourselves. Everyone has to overcome tragedies, but the way we learn from these obstacles is what defines us. A time I faced my biggest challenge was halfway into my sophomore year in high school. Up until then I was pretty healthy, but not obsessed with being overly healthy. It was always on a Friday night so we could recover before the next week. So of course, I went to school the day of the lock-in. It was basically a bunch of high schoolers pulling an all nighter with each other. We played games, had food, and watched a movie. One of the games we did was a hockey tournament. I’m usually not one to play sports, but hockey was my favorite game. I’m pretty competitive so I played hard with a bunch of guys that played harder. At some point during the tournament, I was knocked to the ground. I basically just fell on my butt and nothing more. We continued with our night as per usual. I participated in all of the games and stayed up to watch part of the movie. Albeit I never thought that staying up to greet the sun was that bad for
