Personal Statement: Hartland Varsity Hockey

Hartland Varsity Hockey: A team built on hard work, passion, respect, and most importantly, a shared love for the game of hockey. This team has left its mark on me and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. I’ve been in hundreds of locker rooms for several different sports throughout my life, but not one of those other locker rooms even compares to the significance of the Hartland Varsity Hockey locker room. It is an extreme honor be a part of the special Hartland Hockey culture that exists within my family and anyone who has ever been a part of the team, and the locker room is undoubtedly the greatest representation of that. I want this so badly not only for me, but for my family. With great confidence and persistence, I tried out for the team and made it! After the long journey of watching the games as a kid, to playing hockey all my life, to practicing with the team, to finally making it; the dream had finally been accomplished. Still to this day, this is one of my greatest achievements. It was at this point that I finally became an important part of the true culture of the Hartland Hockey team. I got my own locker stall with my name on it within the locker room, which sparked the greatest feeling of accomplishment and overjoy. My family, friends, and most of all my dad are so proud of me. I will never forget what it was like in the locker room before our biggest games. We would get dressed in the locker room while listening to our pregame playlist, then our coach would come in and give his pregame speech, we would then do our unique “Oh Mama” pregame chant, finally to run onto the ice in a rink packed of dedicated fans anticipating the experience of the Hartland Hockey culture. As special as the pregames were, the postgames were even more special. In my two years on the team, we never lost a game at home, hence a lot of celebrating. After a big win, there was always a distinct electric feeling as we came back in the locker room that I’ve never felt elsewhere. We would blast our postgame playlist and have fun while the local news crews waited outside for interviews. These experiences made home game days my favorite days of the week, and days that I still look back to. Although these were my most fond memories in the locker room, there were so many
