We are dealing with creatures of emotion, creatures bristling with prejudices and motivated by pride and vanity (Carnegie, 1998).” Dale Carnegie’s book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” provides a very insightful look at business and everyday practices to improve anyone’s social situation. Although it was originally published in 1936, this book is still very relevant to today’s society and hopefully will continue to be for many years to come. As much as I hate to admit it, I am not the best at remembering people’s names, but I realize that when someone I meet remembers my name, it always makes me feel special and important, so this is one suggestion that I will take seriously from now on. Another thing that I will take more seriously after reading Carnegie’s book is to try to see the situation from the other person’s point of view. I always try to do this, but I tend to get caught up in the moment and fail to do so honestly. One thing that I also found important that I had not really thought about before reading is the idea of "giving the other person a fine reputation to live up to (Carnegie, 1998).” I realized that when someone approaches me and tells me that they have heard that I am talented at something, I am more willing and excited to help them than if they simply asked for my help, so I will definitely employ this …show more content…

I found that I knew most of the principles that Carnegie mentioned in the book, and I called my parents to talk about that. In talking to my parents, I found that my dad has actually taken multiple courses on “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” so I have been hearing Carnegie’s ideas my entire life. While I was lucky that my father has a lot of experience with this book and business in general, many people probably do not. The topics discussed are vital to business success, especially for people in my generation. Business men and women from the generation before us will be hiring us that learned Carnegie’s principles and will appreciate the fact that we know them as
