The richest team in the NFL is none other then America’s team the Dallas Cowboys owned by Jerry Jones. “This is the 18th year that Forbes has compiled valuations of NFL teams and the ninth consecutive one that the Cowboys have landed in the top spot, worth $4 billion this year” (Badenhausen, Kurt. The Lakers are currently worth 2.6 billion dollars, which leaves a 1.4 billion dollar gap between them and the Cowboys. In fact, The Lakers are poorer in value, revenue, and operating income then the top five wealthiest teams in the NFL, which are the Cowboys, Patriots, Redskins, Giants, and 49ers. The NBA is different, in that the teams values are less lop sided with the Lakers only being worth 100 million dollars more then second highest valued team in basketball, the Chicago Bulls. When comparing the values of the top five valued teams in each league it’s astonishing what you will find. The average of the top five valued teams in the NFL is 3.11 billion dollars, compared to the NBA’s top five valued teams average of 2.08 billion dollars. Showing that when compared in numerical order the top five valued NFL teams average to be 1.03 billion dollars greater than the top five NBA teams.
