Watching the documentary of Darius Goes West had a strong impact in the way I attempt to see life. I was able to learn about DMD, which is something I had no idea it existed. Watching this documentary made me realize how lucky I am to be able to say that I am healthy and that I am able to do things that many people wish they were able to do. Watching this documentary made me realize that there are many things I should be thankful for. When the movie started I loved to see how everyone had something positive to say about Darius. It is very sad to see that there are not many places that are wheelchair accessible. Honestly before I had never though about how many places were wheelchair accessible, but now after watching this documentary made me realize how there are not many places wheelchair accessible. But compared to my native country (Ecuador), the United States has a lot more wheelchair accessible places than Ecuador. Which I find it very sad, because in Ecuador there are many people who can’t even afford a wheelchair but they are able to manage to use different types of materials to create their own wheelchair. For example I have always battle with gaining weight easily and I am always trying not to gain more weight, but watching this documentary made me realize how selfish I have been. I should be thankful for been healthy and I need to remind myself that there are many people who have real problems to worry about, but they tend to enjoy life more than a “normal” person without disabilities. During the documentary I loved to see the personality that Darius has, he seems not to let this disability affect him, but it is sad to see that there are not many places he can’t go because of his disability.
