Scientists have often made major discoveries about our universe, especially when it came to evolution. Charles Darwin, Ernst Mayr, Watson and Crick, and Alfred Russel Wallace have made major discoveries when it comes to genetics and evolution. Charles Darwin (1809-1892) proposed one of the most accepted theories of evolution to this day. Darwin was exposed to species all over the world and noticed certain similarities between them, as well as variations based on certain locations. This lead him to believe that species survived through “Natural selection,” which is where a species adapts over time to meet the changing environment, and those who failed to adapt would die (“Charles Darwin Biography.” Biography.com Editors). In 1858, Darwin introduced his theory of evolution in a letter at a meeting of the Linnean Society. In 1859, he published an explanation of his theory in one of his works, “On the origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection” (“Charles Darwin Biography.” Biography .com).
