Darwin's Theory Of Natural Selection In Schools

Evolution is a very controversial topic among scientists and religious supporters who have very different perspectives about how the Earth has evolved from what it was then to what it is now. The theory that scientists find most factually correct is that current species were descents from the original species that date to prehistoric times. Over a long period of time they had acquired new characteristics and physical traits to help them adapt in their ever changing environments. To try and experience evolutionary change themselves and to get a better understanding of natural selection; scientists studied two separate locations in Trinidad’s Aripo River systems and analyzed the guppy populations to compare and contrast both environments and …show more content…

The topic has spiked an interest among many scientists; some of those scientists had such breakthroughs in their research that they had expanded and impacted the theory of evolution dramatically. To develop a basic understanding of evolution, you would need to gather evidence and know the background of the contributors who strived to support it. One of the most famous scientists that are known for his contribution is Charles Darwin; he was born in 1809 and died in 1882. Charles Darwin had developed a theory of evolution, which had assisted in the explanation of biological change. Natural Selection was developed when he had gone to the Galapagos Islands near Ecuador and studied the different Finches that inhabited each island. Darwin had noticed similarities among the species, but also the diversity that each shared on their island; he theorized that their differences were based on their location and environments- how they had evolved gradually in order to adapt. He later believed that they had evolved from the same ancestor. His contribution had opened a new door in evolution; natural selection could now explain the similarities between every species and why there were such drastic changes between each. A biologist; Carl Linnaeus, had lived between 1707 and 1778. …show more content…

A French naturalist, Jean Baptiste Lamarck, was born 1744 and passed 1829. Lamarck had proposed that species developed over time, into new species by change in environment. When environments changed, animals also had to change in order to adapt and survive. He believed that if a species used an organ more than it previously had, then the organ would grow in it’s lifetime; if one had become less dependent on or no longer used an organ, then that organ would shrink. He had called the force behind his theory, evolution over natural processes. James Hutton was alive 1726 through 1797; besides being an amazing geologist, he also contributed greatly to the theory of evolution. A long time before Charles Darwin, he had brought up the theory of life changing over time since the very beginning; later known as the theory of evolution. Hutton had built a base which many concepts and theories then built off of. Many experiments were tested to support this theory and add on to Darwin's research; everybody basically had the same goal that they wished to accomplish, but only few could
