Adetutu Okupe Bio 2108K Lab February 3, 2015 Data Analysis and Interpretation Objectives: In this experiment, the assumption that severely obsessed hyperparathyroidism primary patient has larger glands and higher levels of parathyroid hormone. In determining this fact, the variables collected would be used to establish if the hypothesis is true or not. Introduction: To proceed with this experiment, it is imperative to understand the operational definition which is Primary hyperparathyroidism. This disease is a common endocrine disorder described by a combination of hyper-calcemia and non-suppressed serum para-thyroidism, which leads to a wide range of phenotypes ranging from asymptomatic to chronic clinical presentations. According to researchers, it has been determined that Obesity has a link to hyperparathyroidism. According to the Endocrine society, it was first observed in the situation of postmenopausal women with primary hyperparathyroidism. …show more content…

As a continuous variable across all sample patients, Body mass negatively connected with preoperative 25-OH D levels. Preoperative 25-OH D also linked in reverse with parathyroid tumor weight. Though, after adjusting for potential confounders including Body mass, race, and age, the inverse relationship between 25-OH D and tumor weight became irrelevant. When adjusting for Body mass only, the practical inverse relationship between the 25-OH D and tumor weight was no longer important, suggesting that a direct relationship between body mass and tumor weight are independent of vitamin D status. Not much difference was observed in the immediate post resection Primary hyperparathyroidism data between patients in Body mass groups I, II, and III. Hence resulting in the slightly but not very high in group II versus group
