Its been fought over for many years that violent video games should not be given to minors, but teens and minors reply in a different way that of to adults and physiologists. One child psychologist claims to believe “violent video—games—which have become increasingly interactive and realistic—could lead minors to commit real-life acts of aggression, and that such games are psychologically damaging to them”(Yee 17). In order to understand the Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association, one must know that a psychologist believed that violent video games for children lead to aggression later on in life, Each side presented its own view on the case, The impact on this case has changed Americas view on video game distribution to minors.

In his argumentative essay, Paul Bogard uses literacy diction and allusions to give credibility to his argument. By using words like Van Gogh, “Starry night sky”, and given. These words evoke a feeling of recollection. Also using the words van Gogh, Paul gives his paper further credibility all while persuading the audience to be on his side. Furthermore Paul also uses imagery in his argument to evoke a feeling of both sadness and a feeling of missing out.
Bob Brecher’s argument is centered around being a counter-claim to Dershowitz’ Ticking Bomb scenario. The counter-claim argues that a ticking bomb scenario, as described by Dershowtiz, is unlikely to occur in the real world, due to the difficulty in apprehending a terrorist after the terrorist plot has been set in motion, but has not yet been fully executed. Even if the authorities are lucky enough to apprehend the suspect before the ticking bomb has been set to detonate, it is improbable that torture would result in the suspect revealing the plot before the bomb goes off. Brecher additionally argues that Dershowitz’ idea of using legalized torture warrants to limit torture would, on the contrary, lead to the abuse of the torture warrant system.

Finally, the quality of counterargument expressed throughout Garretson’s essay, has also been effected by her biased stance on vegetarianism, because she has been unable to display and acknowledge opposing views in her piece. It is very important for one to present counterarguments in their writing because it shows that the writer is not narrow-minded, and instead, is fair by considering other perspectives. Additionally, the use of counterargument adds credibility to a writing and makes the arguments that one presents more believable and trustworthy. Since Garretson does not display or acknowledge any opposing views in her essay, her arguments lose a great deal of credibility. There are many different approaches that Garretson could have taken
In the essay, “Violent Media Is Good for Kids”, writer Gerard Jones argues against parents and teachers by saying that violence is good for kids. Jones argues that violent media whether it be video games, movies, Television, or comic books is good for kids. Kids are often taught both in school and at home that violence is never the answer and cooperation was always better than resorting to violence because violence always leads to more violence.
