Soon his team runs onto the field and begins to play. As a reader I felt that the imagery enhanced my experience, describing why the protagonist does these tasks. If the author had not used imagery like the baseball announcer approaching the protagonist or the description of the old fashioned uniform what Shoeless Joe was wearing, it would have been difficult to imagine the scenes. In the text the author uses visual imagery when he says “his red jersey a matador to my bull”. It shows that he is focused on the quarterback and ready to get the tackle. You can see him staring down the quarterback. The audience thinks that he is focused on getting the tackle and helping his team win the game.
Connell uses imagery to show the reader how intense and fearful Rainsford feels in the story. For instance, Zaroff first look to Rainsford was “menacing look” (17) This quote is imagery because it describing the look in his eyes did not change and it was a menacing look also. Another example for imagery would be when “Ivan conducted him was in many ways remarkable.”

Throughout the entire novel, the author’s use of literary devices is very clear.
