D. B. Cooper (Dan Cooper) was one of the most searched-for men in the 1970s and the only item left from his disappearance was a black tie. On November 24, 1971, a man named Dan Cooper boarded a flight heading to Seattle, WA. He stayed on the plane and ordered the rest of the passengers to leave the plane with the threat of an explosive device. The flight crew stayed on the plane and Dan Cooper slipped a note to a flight attendant. He wrote, "Miss—I have a bomb in my briefcase and want you to sit by me." Dan also requested $200,000 and told the pilot to head to Mexico City. He then grabbed a parachute and the money and jumped over the town of La Center, Washington. Never to be seen again. An article from Brittanica that was updated in March of 2024 mentions that the suspect, “gave his name as Dan Cooper, which later turned out to be fake” (Britannica). Dan Cooper or D.B. Cooper was very hard to find from the beginning because his name was already a fake. His real name was never found, even after DNA tests were done on the tie. Not a single family member or person of relation was found, and this could mean that he had more than one fake identity. In 2022, Fox Weather also mentioned the DNA search for D.B Cooper, and the results they found said, “It appears to be something that can amount to commercial DNA that points to a very specific company and a very specific division within the company at a very specific time” (Fox Weather). This led to their lead suspect, Vince Peterson. He worked at a metal manufacturing company in Pennsylvania in the 1970s. He was one of the eight managers who worked with this type of metal at the time. But unfortunately, he died before they found him as a suspect. He could’ve been part of the D.B. Cooper case, but the detectives were back to 0
