In Dead Poets Society, we meet a character named Charlie Dalton, but he told his friends to refer to him as “Nuwanda”. Charlie is a very outgoing character who doesn’t mind not playing by the rules. Charlie stays the same throughout the book, so he is a static character. It explains Charlie as having a handsome and a preppy look about him. One would typically infer him to be a very studious and a well-behaved child, but he is the most likely to get into trouble. Charlie takes the term carpe diem a little too seriously and finds himself getting into trouble. His actions lead to him getting expelled after he decided to pull the phone call prank from god and also for punching Cameron. During the war, he ships out damaged cylinder heads, which was an aspect of what lead to his sons Larry’s death and 21 other pilots. Joe repeatedly states that “[he’s] in business”, business has a process and if “the process don’t work you’re out of business”. Even if “your stuff is no good; they close you up, they tear up your contracts”, he was telling Chris that “[he] never thought they’d install them. I swear to God. I thought they’d stop ’em before anybody took off” (Miller 67). Joe’s action shows that he cares about the money and his family rather than the safety of other people. His mistakes made his son commit suicide because Larry was ashamed that his father did that because it was an inhumane act and he thought it would be best to commit suicide rather than facing the consequences of his father’s crime. Likewise, the film Dead Poets Society demonstrates the theme of how the pressure parents put on their children or vice versa can have severe consequences and even lead someone to commit suicide Mr. Perry, Neil Perry’s father who tries to live his own life through his son since he did not have much growing up. Neil wants to pursue a career in acting, but his father puts a lot of pressure on Neil to become a successful doctor. Mr. Perry was telling Neil that him and his wife “We’re trying very hard to understand why it is that you insist on defying us.” They are unsure of the reason why Neil was doing what he was doing but Whatever the reason, “[your mother and I are] not going to let you ruin your life” And it has been under consideration that “Tomorrow [he is] withdrawing you from Welton and enrolling you in Braighton Military School”. Neil’s parents have stated multiple times that “[Neil is] going to Harvard, and [he is] gonna be a doctor” (Weir). Neil cannot take the pressure so he commits suicide because he had no interest in being a part of the life
