Leadership, a word associated with bold and recorded act of an individual that made a lasting impact in some shape or form. In times such as trial and new beginning, great leaders emerge which are sometime immortalized by the passing time due to their legacy; however, not all who lead are necessarily bold and can lost in time and the ideology of the day. What do leaders mean to you? The Anishinaabe community is barely surviving, a harsh winter threatening their lives. No power, no food, no resources, and no communication with the outside world. In Waubgeshig Rice’s novel Moon of the Crusted Snow, leadership is the only thing leading to their survival. The whole community shares a common goal.
Additionally, the value of leadership is also emphasized in the beginning of the novel through the type of a conflict between person vs self. Identity It is truly amazing how comparable things are in life when you take a moment to actually compare them. When we use the right side of our brains, and start connecting things, we realize how much in common that certain things or objects have. Not only are physical objects comparable, but texts and literature can be reflected upon and connected to other texts in numerous ways. Characters, setting, mood, and a myriad of other elements in texts have the ability to be compared to something else. In society today, comparison can be seen as something negative.

Today the world is so focused on how we dress and how we do stuff in the society. I am going to talk about leaders who are effective in today’s society but in the book Lord of the Flies too. I am also going to mention who I would have followed if I was in the book Lord of the Flies. Leadership is a very big and important role to come by in today’s society. Most people say they can be good leaders but in reality they don’t really play out to make a good leader.
Transcendentalism can be defined as, “a philosophy which says that thought and spiritual things are more real than ordinary human experience and material things”; accordingly, the behaviors of the character Neil Perry, from Dead Poets Society, connects in countless ways. Perhaps the biggest way Neil relates to the tenets of Transcendentalism is in the belief that, “major inspirations included nature and intuition”. For instance, Neil Perry is sent to a top-ranking educational institute by two hard-working parents that hope to give Neil the chance that neither of them had had as young adult. Thus, with Neil’s persistent and stubborn father dictating what his future career should be, Neil always assumed he would become a Physician. However, at this school, Neil is taught that he should not allow others to dictate his future; instead, he should live the life that he dreams of (Dead Poets Society).

Leadership is having the courage to make the right choices, engage others in a vision, and empower your subordinates with a shared purpose and to achieve positive impacts. Leadership can also be relational which means it takes teamwork, requires you to be able to work with others in various backgrounds and that may have difference perspectives. Leadership also requires continuous learning, discerned decision making, and savvy communication skills.
From my point of view , Leadership has more to it than I can possibly imagine. I define leadership as the art of enabling a group of people get to a specific destination. As a leader your main focus was to enable your followers lead theselves. As i think deeper i realise a person cannot choose to be a leader. I think a lot of the time people take on leadership positions without knowing.
