To this day, the Declaration of Independence has been around for 241 years stating principles that today’s Government should uphold. Although, this brings up the phenomenon of how well is our Government upholding those principles. First, those principles are that all men are created equal, the people have basic rights that cannot be taken away, the Government gets its’ power from the people, and the people have the right to alter or abolish the Government if they don’t protect the rights of the people. Personally, I believe that the Government isn’t upholding the principles effectively. July 26, 2017. Although, throughout the years and the Declaration of Independence, we have changed the rules on taxes and the Government now gets its’ power from the people. Since we have changed that, the rules on taxation has to change too right? First of all, the Government now gets its’ power from the people by having taxes and using that money to pay for schools, buildings, etc. Although, is the taxation system in America recently fair? “Sixty-two percent responded that it bothered them “a lot” that some corporations don’t pay their fair share, while a further 18 percent said it bothered them “some”.” the Pew Research Center found. The some corporations that don’t pay their fair share maintain of higher income families or also know as rich people. The lower income families were found to pay more than they should and that the Government bank on them more than the higher income. Finally, the medium income families present that the taxes should be reformed. What has this to do with the Government getting its’ power from the people? This shows that the Government get the money solemnly from one group of people instead of everybody. This is unfair for the people that are paying the taxes. The Government gets its’ power from a certain group of people in America, not everybody. Therefore being, the Government isn’t upholding principle 3 in the Declaration of Independence
