The Declaration of Independence On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was written stating how colonists wanted their Independence. It was also adopted by the Continental Congress. The Declaration of Independence states the motivations for fighting for their Independence. The Declaration of Independence also is the founding document of American history that has been around among one of the most important documents ever to be written in the history of the United States of America. We refer to it today as we the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. For example, life, liberty, and "the pursuit of happiness". These rights are called Inalienable Rights these right come with us meaning the rights we were born with. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness..., stated article of The National Humanities Center". These rights cannot be taken away from us in any kind of way except when you're dead of course. When a government fails to protect those rights, it is not only the right but the government can also be impeached or overthrown. In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson described slavery against the rights that they had as an example of life and liberty. Now when there was a situation about a slave people treated them as their rights wasn't the same as theirs. I didn't see why that was a problem or a rule to have because in the First Amendment it stated that we had "Freedom of Speech" and more other rights that the colonists could have used to impeach King George. I think that the colonist could have done more to take the King out of his chair rather than waiting for a good amount of time. Jefferson claims that the colonists have been suffering the protection towards the colonists and that it is now time to expose the injustice to the people in the Declaration of Independence. Instead of giving protection of life and also liberty, the government destroyed the life of the people, it prevented the people to feel happy about themselves. Now as for the 13 colonies declaring their Independence from the British; Thomas Jefferson stated in the Declaration of Independence new United States of America from Great Britain and the King. In response to Britain, they continued the opposition to improve the Continental Congress to pass measures abolishing British authority in the colonies. As a result, thirteen American states or colonies declared independence in 1776 and one after another all the American states got their independence.
