Some of the inventions that have had the greatest impact on America are not materialistic items, but rather the ideas created that build new foundations. Written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776, the Declaration of Independence has done just that. Sometimes, it is known as America’s basis for government. The document has had many influences on the government, and is continued to be used today in society. Although, it does not hold any legal laws, it is looked upon for guidance when making decisions in America’s government. Through setting up the basis of America’s government, creating a sense of equality, and defining American morals, the Declaration of Independence has had the greatest impact on American Society. Creators of the document, laid out what they wanted America to stand for. In the Declaration of Independence, it states, “it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it” (US 1776). The quote is pertaining to the government. Even so, the creators of the document believed that the people did not agree with something that the government was doing, it was their right to be the change. Colonists had been angry with Parliament for not allowing them to have representation in the government and while writing the document, they believed that it was an important aspect to incorporate. Today, the citizens of America petition and vote to change aspects of the government that they believe could be improved; therefore, they are altering the government. Also, in the Declaration of Independence it talks about how King George III “plundered [our] seas, ravaged [our] coasts, burnt [our] towns, and destroyed the lives of [our] people.” (US 1776). In stating this, the writers proved how much of a tyrant King George was. They also pointed out other reasons for leaving, today, people will use reasoning as to why they do not like something in the government. All of this together, set up the “tenants for the American Dream.” (Fontinelle American Dream). People can describe the “American Dream” as having their rights, and making something of themselves.Not only that, but it also defines why people believe America is so great. Many people strive to achieve the dream. Throughout history, many people have achieved the dream, and many people continue to do so
