While the school administration argues that the dress code brings school unity, they are wrong because it takes away a sense of individuality from each student (Logos, concede). In today’s society, people use fashion and their daily outfits as a key way to express themselves. Students are constantly told throughout their school careers that they should demonstrates what makes them “different”, yet uniforms deny that sense of self-expression. According to Grace Chen of the Public School Review, uniforms may result in students turning to “other avenues of self-expression that may be viewed as even more inappropriate than clothing” (Ethos, professional credibility). This includes a nontraditional hairstyle, make up, or acting out towards authority at school or at home.
A worried student would be too focused on if what they’re wearing follows those guidelines to really feel comfortable and learn correctly. A strict dress code could also take away from a child’s class time, since most would be sent down to the nurse’s office to change, or even sent home. Someone could miss out on a lesson, and might not properly grasp it when they have to learn what to do away from the teacher. A student being forced to go home could also arise a problem for parents since most can’t leave work unless something is seriously wrong.
The human experience is made by being able to dress freely without someone taking away those given rights. Dressing to the way we feel gives us the chance to express ourselves like how schools want us to when we grow up, but it has to start somewhere. Dress codes also make people uncomfortable, which means they are attentive.
If they love their off the shoulder shirt so much they might just suffer with a detention every time they want to wear it. We are constantly looking at the fashion industry for new trends, fashions and ideas in order to help us dress on a daily basis. Using traditional clothing from certain cultures and incorporating them into fashion is a frequently done. It does not have to seem completely negative, however one of the main harms is , it reduces the sentimentality and cultural significance once the style turns into a fashion fad. A culture trait that has significantly been used in the fashion industry is the use of the Native American Headdress. It is agreed that certain things are restricted to certain cultures such as wearing a sari to an Indian wedding and wearing a Hijab if you are a Muslim woman, and in showing respect to these cultures we do not dress up in there attire without cultural consciousness.

Different from before, dress code can help teens and kids not get teased. Some teens get teased at school for what they are wearing, but no matter what there are always going to be mean people in this world even with a dress code. The article School Dress Codes Are Necessary and Constitutional states, “According to Don Woodard, a high school principal in Johnston County, the students ' "demeanor is better and there are fewer disruptions because of teasing, or students being uncomfortable because of the apparel that others are wearing.” In that quote, the dress code did help with the teasing but if you read it twice you notice it says “fewer disruptions”, so even with the dress code there was still teasing
Dress code is very common in places such as offices, workplaces, and schools. Having a dress code in offices and workplaces isn’t a problem because it makes the workers dress appropriate and represent the company. Although people can argue that dress code in schools does the same thing as workplaces and offices, there is a lot of controversy. Dress code and uniform policies in schools hasn’t always been a problem, because clothing used to be simple and plain. As time has gone on, numbers have been dramatically increasing.

Dress codes cause a number of problems in schools throughout the world and all of these problems stem from the fact that school systems use dress codes in order to make the focus more on education. In the end dress codes end up doing quite the opposite.

I believe there is indeed a need for a dress code for it to be able to maintain an atmosphere conducive for learning. To begin, with many students of different upbringings attending the school, it is crucial to make sure students dress appropriately in an educational environment. Adolescences particularly, dress the most provocative in an effort to fit in and attract the same or opposite sex. By enforcing more professional attire, it would show students of both sexes the appropriate way to dress in an academic setting. In addition, a dress code can contribute to student’s education by showing students how to dress for the working world.
