Ni River’s dress code, while already a bit lenient, should be changed. It should be changed to be less strict on the length of skirts and shorts, and the width of sleeves. While there are some pros to having a harsher dress code, the cons seem to outweigh the pros.

To start, the dress code making students wear longer clothing can lead to disruptions in learning and take away from class. Most schools go by the rule that a student’s fingertips should be above or level with the hem of their pants for it to be appropriate. A worried student would be too focused on if what they’re wearing follows those guidelines to really feel comfortable and learn correctly. A strict dress code could also take away from a child’s class time, since most would be sent down to the nurse’s office to change, or even sent home. Someone could miss out on a lesson, and might not properly grasp it when they have to learn what to do away from the teacher. A student being forced to go home could also arise a problem for parents since most can’t leave work unless something is seriously wrong. …show more content…

For example, a tall and skinny girl would have difficulty finding shorts or a skirt that are long enough, and wearing jeans in the summer would be uncomfortable. A more developed girl might also have the problem of plainly not knowing what is okay to wear and what isn’t, because teachers would find more things “inappropriate” on a curvier girl. A transgender girl might also be targeted, because she would be wearing something that technically goes against her birth sex. Over half of schools in the U.S. have some kind of dress code that specifically talks about females. The changes suggested earlier, allowing shorts and skirts to be shorter and sleeves to be smaller, would help to fix the ultimately gendered dress
