Ayn Rand’s novel, Atlas Shrugged, stands in strong defense of Capitalism, which Rand believes to be the only moral economic system. In the novel, Rand defends Capitalism primarily by demonstrating how alternatives to Capitalism, mainly Socialism, fail to function. Rand was greatly outraged by the concept of moral collectivism which provided the framework for Socialism and Communism. Collectivism is referred to as the practice of giving a group priority over the individual while individualism in the principle of acting as an individual and being self-reliant.
