Many people may define character as many things, but I would define it as a personality trait that makes us who we are. There are many types of character, good or bad, because we are all unique. Character is what defines me, you, and every other person that we share the world with. Everyone’s character is different and that is okay. What this idea of character means to me is that people should just be themselves because, no matter what, someone out there is going to see you differently than someone else. Many people in my life have shaped my ideas of character, such as one of my best friends Lilly. Lilly has autism, but fortunately, she doesn’t let that get in her way. Many teens in high school are not as worried about the schoolwork anymore, they’re worried about fitting in with the “cool crowd.” The cool crowd is seen as popular, trend-setting teens who do cruel things to feel superior, as we have seen in almost every high school movie there is. I understand that everyone wants to be accepted, but it is shocking to me that the only way to do that is by being someone you are not. People change themselves to fit the mold of what a teen should look like and that is not fair. Also, people are hindered from being loyal to their beliefs and character because of the few people that do not understand or accept it. While the majority of Americans have a variety of beliefs, a lot of individuals still see Muslims as terrorists, LGBTQ as confused, and women as inferior because of the few people that put this information into our heads. I believe that just because we all have different views and beliefs, does not mean that we cannot stop the United States from becoming the Divided
