When you look up the word commitment online or in a dictionary, you see this definition, “the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity.” Now to most people that is what they think of when they think of the word commitment and what it stands for. Commitment has played a huge role in my life and is something I can say I have lived by up to this day. When playing the sports that I have and working at the places I have worked, it takes commitment. To be committed to something means that you are well dedicated to that one thing and work hard towards it. Commitment is not something that is put forth with half effort or something you do once in a while; commitment is giving 100% all the time.

Dedication, devotion, and allegiance are few words that help describe commitment. If you really think about it, commitment is in our everyday lives. When you pledge allegiance to the flag of America you are committing to your country, when you devote yourself to your significant other you are also committing to them. Affective commitment is the first type of commitment I found and it means you feel a strong emotional attachment to your organization and to work that you do. It also goes on to explain that in the feeling of affective commitment you are well aware of the organizations goals and values and genuinely want to be there. Continuance commitment is the second type. This type of commitment occurs when you weigh the pros and cons of leaving your job and organization. People usually have this commitment when they feel that the loss they will experience by leaving is greater than the benefit you will gain in a new role
