People have been successful repeatedly, but is there a pattern between wildly successful people? Do they have a secret to success that we can’t identify? What these authors believe is the secret to success is through research and observation. Malcolm Gladwell and Marge Piercy believe they have an answer to unlock success through that. In both texts, Malcolm Gladwell and Marge Piercy can agree on dedication, hard work, and purposeful practice are attributes you need to become successful. What does it mean to be a hardworking person? Well according to Oxford Languages it mentions that hard work means, “a great deal of effort or endurance”(Oxford Languages “Hard Work”). And Piercy and Gladwell think it very necessary for success. For example in Marge Piercy's poem “To Be of Use” Piercy explains that you need hard work by saying, “I want to be with people who submerge in the task, who go into the fields to harvest and work in a row and pass the bags along,”(Piercy 1) This shows that Piercy thinks that to be successful you need to have hard work because it shows how she wants people who can immerse themselves in the task that they take part in by working and showing endurance by “passing the bags along” meaning working endlessly until the job is done This shows how Marge Piercy shows that you need hard work to be successful but what about Gladwell? Malcolm Gladwell says in his title “Outliers” that you need hard work by saying, “The amateurs never practiced more than about three hours a week over the course of their childhood, and by the age of twenty they had totaled two thousand hours of practice.”(Gladwell 2) This shows how Gladwell says that you need hard work to succeed because he uses an example of people who
