McMahon, in his New York Times article, “In Pursuit of Unhappiness”, (11-29-2005) he persuades that happiness is a relentless desire to achieve if you find it on your own. the article written by McMahon he quotes that ”Those only are happy who have their minds fixed on some object other than their own happiness..”. He uses evidence to support his claim by using philosophers John Stuart mill and Carlyle quotes to prove that they all have similar views on how to achieve being happy and be cheerful. People want to be happy, isn't that right? Haven't you heard it all your life? I want to be happy, people say. Well, aren't they? Don't we keep them moving, don't we give them fun?
One of those words that is commonly misinterpreted, especially in today's society. In today's society, we believe that happiness is reaching your final destination without any bumps in the road, or being rich and getting everything you want. This is simply not the case; happiness is a person’s satisfaction with life on a day-to-day basis regardless of circumstances. Happiness is being happy with your daily routine and getting up everyday excited to start your day. The most common leading cause for human beings to lose their sense of real happiness is the overuse of technology.
The Websters Dictionary portrays or defines happiness as a state of content,satisfaction or euphoria. Happiness is something that cannot be forced or simulated and it is more that just a simple feeling or emotion. It is more than just a noun used in the vocabulary of the average third grade child. Happiness is an undescribable sentiment that anything can experience depending on that specific thing. It is natural and one of a kind.
When thinking of happiness, every human brain will travel down a different path. Humans seek different ways of trying to attain true happiness. Many individuals will seek pleasurable moments and things in order to reach their happy trial. Sitting on a porch Sunday morning with a cup of coffee. Going out with your loved one to see a new release in theaters.
I believe that pursuing happiness as a goal has detrimental effects. As a society, we tend to believe that we need to be full of joy at all times, but that isn't realistic - life happens. By attempting to be cheery all the time, you will never be genuinely content. You will always be searching for more and won't be satisfied with what you have, creating a permanent cycle of gloom rather than bliss.
It is clear that happiness is the ultimate everyone’s goal. But it seems like people have their own version when it comes to defining happiness and determining the main factor to acquiring happiness. Happiness is an abstract, subjective concept that its definition varies according to culture, religion and personal background. While Buddhists believe that by detaching oneself from all passions, needs and wants of life, people can achieve happiness; Christians are taught that dedicating one’s life to helping people with pure altruism is the way to obtain eternity happiness.
Happiness A person will go through many obstacles during their life and it is their choice to either ignore it or fight back. People will always try to bring down a happy person and would try to add some negativity to their lives. The wise ones will always have a positive attitude and thinking to any situation possible. They are the ones who know what they want in life they just want happiness and no negativity. A person will go through many aspects in life which would lead them to becoming wiser during every problem.

Through this experience I am able to immerse myself in something I truly love and be a be a better, lighter version of myself. For some, happiness is living in the moment and experiencing life as it passes, but for others it means living a life of virtue. Though happiness may look different for everyone, it is something that everyone is striving for.
