A hero doesn’t have to be flying through the air, shooting webs out of his hand, or beating up bad guys. A hero could just be an everyday person who defends people, and does what is right. Sure, Spiderman and Superman are heroes, but not everyone has to be like them. If you are fighting for your country, you're a hero. If you stand for what is right, even if you know there may be sacrifices, you’re a hero. And a true hero does not give up on the task at hand. Heroes can just be a normal person who does what is right and knows what is right. First, an example of a hero could be someone who is fighting for the country. A lot of Americans die every year protecting the country. So if you put your life on the line to protect the home of over 320 million people, you’re an example of a true hero. For example, A soldier named Tristan Segers lost his leg fighting for his country. In an article “Soldier Home After Losing his leg in Afghanistan” by Gale Fiege, the author states “ didn’t do anything special, but if the progress I have made motivates another wounded veteran to keep going,then that’s great.” (Fiege 68). People have to stand for what is right every single day. People in Iraq are fighting just to practice their own religion. People in Libya are being traded as slaves. And even in America, people of all races are STILL fighting to end racism. Abraham Lincoln was one of the major people in history to show this heroic trait. Abraham Lincoln fought to end slavery in the United States in 1865. Unfortunately, we lost a great hero that year also. Abraham Lincoln made the ultimate sacrifice, his life. In the poem “O Captain! My Captain!” the author states “Though our beloved President is slain, our beloved country is saved.” (Gurley 77).
