In the book Flowers for Algernon written by Daniel Keyes is about a man with an intellectual disability named Charlie Gordon. All he’s ever wanted was to be intelligent. One day a guy named Dr. Strauss see’s potential in Charlie to use him for an experimental surgery to make Charlie smart.
Society features creates ignorance and intelligence. To be intelligent you have to realize how ignorant you are. There are two definitions from ignorance. Ignorance can mean in a rude. Ignorance can mean rudeness or lack of knowledge.
Intelligence, according to Webster’s Dictionary is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. Throughout the story, Of Mice and Men, Lennie is faced with many decisions which shows his two types of intelligence levels. In Of Mice and Men, we are presented with different scenes which showing the reader, logical intelligence and emotional intelligence. Lennie is a character with both logical and emotional intelligence because he knows both types of emotions well and he possesses more emotional than logical intelligence.
Intelligence is something that an individual can have based of their actions. No matter how little or small it maybe. Wisdom is something that can be something you never learned or something you already know. No matter how many people your actions may affect. You’re still making a change for yourself and others.

“That’s so retarded”. I cannot even begin to count the number of times I have personally used or heard this phrase or word used with friends, in classrooms and in hallways. I never knew that there was a negative connotation attached to it. The word was used so loosely that parents and older siblings never thought to correct me. Intellect, on the other hand, is the critical, creative, and contemplative side of mind. Whereas intelligence seeks to grasp, manipulate, reorder, adjust, intelligence examines, ponders, wonders, theorizes, criticizes, imagines. Intelligence will seize the immediate meaning in a situation and evaluate it. Intellect evaluates evaluations, and looks for the meaning of a situations as a whole. Intelligence can be praised as a quality in animals; intellect, being a unique manifestation of human dignity, is both praised and assailed as a quality in men” (Hofstadter 1963:25).
The common definition of the word fool is “ A silly person or simpleton who is deficient in judgment or sense or acts or behaves stupidly” (“Fool,” Oxford English Dictionary). When mentioning to a natural or born mental disability specifically, it means “a weak-minded or idiotic person who is deficient in, or destitute of, reason or intellect” (OED). It is also defined as “A dupe who is made to appear a fool or is imposed on by others”(OED). Additionally, it indicated “a jester or clown who professionally counterfeits folly for the entertainment of others” in many literary works (OED). When the word fool appears in a sentence, the whole sentence has a strong negative and pejorative feeling for readers, before readers understand the meaning of the sentence.
In life you’re going to make mistakes, but it’s up to you to learn from the mistakes that you made. Admitting your wrong doings can be a bit tough. Learning from mistakes can be a good or a bad thing. Putting yourself in situations where you have the self-confidence to own up to it can be a mistake you can learn from in a good way. Once you realize what you have done, you can avoid making the same mistakes again.
