Joy and happiness are commonly mistaken as the same thing, but joy and happiness are very different. Where happiness can be obtained through small events in life that people forget about the next day, joy is a much greater and substantial emotion. Joy is the only cause of pure, everlasting happiness. “Joy is a state of mind and an orientation of the heart. It is a settled state of contentment, confidence and hope. It is something or someone that provides a source of happiness.” (Joy) Pure joy is only found through love of someone or something that tremendously impacts ones life. Through life a person will go through many trials, including everyday trials such as school or work, and the more rare and powerful trials such as close family deaths or marriage. There are great differences between the two. On daily routines, trials may not be noticed, but they will be there. They will be there testing character, integrity, and perseverance. Whether the outcome is good or bad, it will have an affect in some way, shape, or form. On the first big trial such as marriage or having children, or any other great thing in ones life that is found to be amazing or remarkable, it is easy to stay joyful as you are completely shrouded by happiness. On the other hand though, the harder trials are quite the opposite. As one goes through tremendous tragedy they may suffer so greatly that the suffering will take over and shape their life.
