Pop Culture Essay
Pop Culture is a widespread epidemic! Pop culture is literally everywhere from the music you listen to, to the shoes you wear. As a student I was asked what is pop culture I truly never thought of this question let alone what it was. Then I was given a summary “ pop culture is recognized as the vernacular or people’s culture of predominates in society. (............). And even after being given the definition I had to think what is the meaning to me of Pop Culture? The first idea that popped in my head was a baby doll. As a child this was my pop culture. Or is it just programmed in our brains to accept what is taught to us? Just as when people refer to women as weaker than males, more beautiful when skinny, and said to predominantly care for the home and children while their husband are working. As Stephanie Brown has relayed in her article Playing with Dolls and Figures, “ Dolls and figures give your toddler a way to act out the scenes she sees in everyday life. She can bathe, change, feed and cuddle her baby doll mimicking the way you nurture her. Stephanie Brown also brings up the use of Play therapy in her article which is a very useful technique when talking to children in a physiological setting. Play therapy is a psychotherapeutic treatment specifically developed to help children of the ages of three to 12 years old. A trained mental health professional,works with a child to explore and resolve problems through the therapeutic use of play. Child and therapist work together in a counselling space called a playroom, which is equipped with specially chosen toys that will encourage the safe expression of feelings and also support the development of healthier behaviors (qtd.
