Diane Ackerman’s purpose for writing her essay “ Loves Vocabulary” is to inform us that love is inexplicable for the reason that there are many emotions to it and many emotions that fit into one single word. The connotations of the words such as “monotone” and “tangle” suggest her authoritative tone about how love can be make you feel many emotions at a time although we can not define the word love. Furthermore, there are so many feelings that occur, but we are not able to concentrate on one feeling. Her figurative language particularly simile and oxymoron reveal the love is very powerful, and it can also be perceived in many different ways, according to how we feel, which also connects to her irritated attitude about there being little vocabulary
Words. Small distinct meanings, when arranged together they form a phrase, a phrase that may change an entire economy. Have Janet Yellen’s words changed an economy? The United States’ economy?
Intelligent people use vocabulary that represents what is in their mind and physically connects our hearts to their message. Martin Luther King Jr the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference was arrested Friday April 12, 1963 for demonstrating in Birmingham, Alabama. Where he commenced to write a letter called Letter From Birmingham Jail, to a white clergymen, who wrote about the King’s arrest saying it was “unwise and untimely.” Which lead to John F. Everyone suffers with some type of conflict on a day to day bases. The conflict may not be outwardly evident, yet it is still constantly happening. However, the conflict a person may be suffering outwardly is being caused by the people surrounding this person who are suffering with some sort of conflict. The Power of Words Words and language have great power and influence, they are in fact what makes people, people. The power of words is so immense that they can move people to new religions, practices, and change lives. But words also have a bad side, they can kill, hurt, and destroy people in many ways that go unnoticed. The Book Thief is a great example of this, it shows the power of words in Nazi Germany on a large scale and the effect on a small scale for a girl living in Germany.
Unbroken The author wrote this story to inform the reader of the life of Louis Zamperini, while also telling the story in an entertaining way. Language has the power to raise people’s spirits or to install fear. In a patriarchal dystopian society the power of words is essential; using them gives the ability to take away freedom. Incorporating new words into literature can structure new meanings into a society. Using biblical references can have strong repercussions when used on an unassuming audience. Using language in your head can keep your thoughts alive.
Kathryn Stockett successfully uses rhetorical devices to get the reader to feel and understand the perspectives of the protagonists. Stockett uses pathos, ethos, and logos in her book, since the book about social injustice. The topics in the book range from inequality of the sexes to social classes and racism, Stockett is successful in getting the reader to reflect while reading the book and the themes of the book have a clear presence. In some instances where Stockett uses ethos, pathos is also included in her writing.
In response to "Where Words Come From," the background of a specific word, in this case cool, has opened my eyes to a topic that seemed so simple. Not only did the text help me grasp a better understanding of where words come from, but cool grew to be very significant to me because it made me realize how influential one word can be. Cool is a powerful word a lot of people seem to underestimate. This word is so influential because along with its many definitions, it is well known for meaning superior or worthy of approval and with such a strong meaning, one may try and become worthy of approval in order to gain acceptance from others. That alone is very dangerous.

“In long-term relationships, we are called upon to navigate that delicate balance between separateness and connectedness. We confront the challenge of sustaining both, without losing either,” by Harriet Lerner. This means that everything is no longer about you, though is regarding what can be done to compose time for the partner involved. They become two pieces of a puzzle; the picture cannot be complete without them both involved.
Introduction We use language every day to inform, express, explain or socialize. The language we use in daily life varies since we have various identities in the society. Different word choices are used depending on the target, purpose and situation. Register changes at specific time either, to express the identity of oneself. On the one hand, some argue that language constructs our thoughts. From this perspective, Deborah Tannen, from the language constructs thought community, states that “This is how language works. It invisibly molds our way of thinking about people, actions, and the world around us” (Tannen 14). On the other hand, however, others such as Richard Selzer, might say that language is used to represent our thoughts, but it can fall short. One of his view’s main proponents are, “these extremes of sensation remain beyond the power of language to express” (Selzer 28).
