What does it mean to own something? Furthermore, why do humans put so much pride and character into owning things? All humans die eventually, and the objects they've accumulated will be nothing more than piles of matter. Life isn't about the possessions, the fancy trucks, or the pristine dresses, it's about the production of the self, and the owning of intangible feats. When one is about to die, what does he or she reflect upon? Definitely not the car he bought or the necklace she owned, none of those things. They think about the things they did, the things things they accomplished and the things they wish they would've done. When I was in 8th grade, I owned a moment in during a football game when I jumped over a kid and caught the ball. In that moment I "owned" it, and while most may just interpret "owning it" as just meaning that I did a really good job, it means much more. Because of the fact that I "owned" that moment, I can literally say that I "own" that moment. I performed so well and was so successful in that moment that that memory and moment is mine to keep and remember. It's not tangible, and it sure as hell isn't a big ole' truck, but it holds prevalent in my mind, and therefore it's my possession. Owning the self and it's accomplishments is a very important part of every individuals life. This moment in my life portrays the correlation of self, in coherence with possessions. I can own a skateboard just as easily as I can own my self and my personality. While it may seem obvious that humans can own their own self, the meaning delves much deeper. Through trials and moments like the one I explained earlier, a person can slowly discover and begin to own ones self. Although there may be a correlation between the self and possessions, it is a difficult task to discover ones
