The River of Doubt is about a non-fiction novel over the former president Theodor Roosevelt as he and his handpicked explorers walked through the Amazon rainforest. There are two reasons why he went and followed this task to achieve. One, Roosevelt felt that this was a great challenge to him. He decided he was going to conquer it. Two, it was unexplored areas by the rivers in the rainforest. He did put them on the map as he was going through the rivers of the Amazon. The part that is most meaningful to me is when Roosevelt was so upset from being sick, hurt, starving, and seeing his fellow explorers in harsh conditions as well. The process of demolish the rainforest are through both the slash and burn technique, where large groups of trees are cut and then burned to let farmers grow their crops. The next process is clear cutting, taking away all vegetation. The problems of clearing the rainforests include greenhouse gasses, deaths of animal species and the destroying of their homes, and polluted water. The polluted water can cause a lot of people to become sick and possibly die. This was written on March 04, 2015.
