Rainforests are home to almost half the Earth's animals, plants, and insects. They regulate our climate, produce fresh water, and have plants that can help cure diseases. We are beginning to lose one of Earth's greatest treasures just as we start to realize how important it is. Rainforests use to cover 14% of the world, they now only cover a mere 6%. Experts estimate that all rainforests will be consumed in less than 40 years. Rainforest destruction needs to be prohibited. It is estimated that we are losing 137 plants,animals,and insects everyday due to deforestation, that equates to 50,000 species a year. Rainforests are home to nearly 10 millions diferent kinds of plants and animals. Half of the worlds species of plants and animals will be destroyed or severely threatened over the next quarter century if deforestation continues. More than 80% of the worlds diet was originally found in rainforests. Not only are rainforests home to to all these plants and animals but it also contains ⅕ of the world's fresh water.If deforestation continues we would be losing so much more than we can bargain for. …show more content…

More than 120 prescription drugs that are sold worldwide come from plants only found in rainforests. 70% of the plants that are used to fight cancer are found in rainforests. There was an estimated 10 million Indians living in the Amazon Rainforest 5 centuries ago, today there are less than 200,000. As the Indigenous people are being forced out of the rainforests, so is their irreplaceable knowledge about all the medical plants.
