With the deterioration of income inequality, intergenerational mobility has been exasperated over time. In most cases, individuals from a disadvantaged family encounter barriers while pursuing their goals, and the American Dream is not a reality for everyone. Undoubtedly, it is possible for each individual to achieve their dreams, but it is impossible for everyone to attain their goals by the same amount of effort.
In our society, some people are having abundant wealth and social resource whereas the rest is lacking of social and financial resources. There are various ways to success. But, growing up with more financial sources and living with parents who are highly educated always make individual make accomplishment easier compared to individuals with disadvantaged backgrounds. Poverty brings tremendous negative impacts to individuals, such as stress and lack of opportunity. Specifically, physiological needs are in the lowest level, which are the basic requirements for survival. If an individual who is suffering from poverty, this person might make survival as a priority. Having money as soon as possible seems to be the most indispensable thing for them. Maslow indicated that, once the lower needs have been met, one will attempt to meet his/her higher needs. Wealthier people do not need to concern about foods or drinks for survival, most of them have fancy places to live, and then they have the sense of safety.
