Delivery and Ethics In DeVito’s book Human Communication: the Basic Course, he explains that there are four different types of presentation (DeVito, 2012). The four different types of presentation include: impromptu, manuscript, memorized, and extemporaneous speech (DeVito, 2012). Impromptu speech is when you speak about a specific subject matter without any preparation, and possibly without any knowledge of the speech’s occurrence (DeVito, 2012). Impromptu speech can occur at various random moments, being least expected, and the speaker might possibly be unaware of the speech taking place (DeVito, 2012). Impromptu speech occurs at all times throughout the day. It could occur during a class lecture, in a work meeting, and even in a conversation between friends (DeVito, 2012). Manuscript speech is exactly what it sounds; your entire speech is written out for you and you present every word verbatim, exactly as they are written (DeVito, 2012). The benefits of this type of speech include knowing exactly what you are going to say, without the possibility of forgetting any major points or stumbling during your speech (DeVito, 2012). Every single person can perceive the meaning of right and wrong completely different. It may be hard for someone else to understand my actions, but to me, I look out for my friends and do almost anything I can to help them. My view of “ethics” may be completely different than your own, but my view of the “ethical” thing to do would be to help my friend, not hinder my friend. They would probably be completely aware that they did poorly on the speech, and I would be able to tell them after the class exactly how to
