Delsym/ Dextromethorphan: I think the trade name was used to appeal to the parent and child. It is easier to say than the generic name.

Rtional /Purpose : Delsym is used For relief of coughs for chronic nonproductive cough.
Age Range: According to the manufactures label, For Children 12 Years of Age and Over: 10 ml every 12 hours, and should not to exceed 20 ml in 24 hours. For Children 6 to Under 12 Years of Age: 5 ml every 12 hours, and should not to exceed 10 ml in 24 hours. For Children 4 to Under 6 Years of Age: 2.5 ml every 12 hours, and should not to exceed 5 ml in 24 hours. This medication is taken by mouth in liquid form.

Do not use dosing cup with other products. Parents should check label for accurate dosing by age. If the child had a cough lasting over 1 week or if cough is accompanied by fever, chest pain, persistent headache, or skin rash the parents should contact health care provider.

Rational /Purpose Imodium controls the symptoms of diarrhea in children. I think the drug is beneficial to a child. Diarrhea can me a symptom that is straining on both the child and the parent. The child is also at risk for dehydration.

Age range. According to the label, Children 6-8 years (48-59 lbs) take 15 mL after the first loose stool, 7.5 mL after each subsequent loose stool but no more than 30 mL in 24 hours. Children 9-11 years (60-95 lbs) take 15 mL after the first loose stool, 7.5 mL after each subsequent loose stool but no more than 45 mL in 24 hours.
