Feline toothpaste is safe for cats to ingest, but human toothpaste is not. Never use human toothpaste to brush your cat’s teeth—the chemicals will make your cat sick.
If you're training a reluctant cat to have his or her teeth brushed, start slowly. Let him or her lick the feline toothpaste off your finger. Feline toothpaste is usually made to taste like fish or poultry, so hopefully the toothpaste will appeal to your cat.
Next, rub the toothpaste along your cat’s teeth with your finger. Then you can cover your finger with gauze and start the brushing process. If your cat needs more time, then let him or her play with a toothbrush for a few days before you try to use it for feline dental hygiene.
