Deontology and utilitarianism are part of philosophy. Both are considered different, as deontology is based on moral judgement of an action/decision make by an individual. This action can be seen as morally right or wrong, and one will try to approach both decision and consequence as ethical as possible. Utilitarianism, on the other hand, is part of consequentialism. It is defined as making a right decision in order to lead to a best consequence that benefits the well-being. Once the benefit of well-being is achieved, the action is perceived as morally right. However, an action is considered morally wrong if the consequence is negative. Both deontology and utilitarianism are polar opposite of each other, but ultimately, it is the person’s character that determines the choice that he makes as he has the right to carry out his life. …show more content…

My best friend, Jane, and I are very close to each other as we are friends for almost 4 years. Jane was awarded to a scholarship due to her stellar academic results. However, she came from a poor family. As such, she has to work a few part time jobs in order to support herself and not became a burden to her family. She did not have a problem in coping her academic studies, but her results started to deteriorate once her brother came down with a stage 2 cancer. She was completely devastated at first, and couldn't take the news well. As time passed by, Jane began to take care of her brother, work part-time jobs while neglected her studies. Twice the school administrator warned her that her scholarship would be revoked if she did not score B+ for all her modules, as she gotten B and Cs in last semester.
