The play Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is set in a city called Verona. It starts with Sampson and Gregory, the two servants from the house of Capulet joking “war of words” on a street of Verona. As they talk, Abraham and Balthasar, two servants from house Montague come in. Sampson bites his thumb as an insult to them and the fight starts. Benvolio and Tybalt appear and join the fight. Prince Escalus arrives with the Citizens of the Watch. He stops the fight and announces, “If ever you disturb our streets again/ Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace” (I.i.95-96). The Prince says if the fight between Capulets and Montagues happen again then, whoever is involved will pay with their lives. Meanwhile, Lady Montague asks Benvolio about where his son Romeo is. Benvolio says he saw him in the forest and he looked depressed. Later on, Benvolio meets up with Romeo and asks him why is he depressed. Romeo answers, “Out of her favour, where I am in love”(I.i.165). Romeo says the woman he is in love with does not love him back, and that is why he is depressed. …show more content…
