Depression in the United States

In my opinion, depression is an emotional disorder, in which a person goes into a deep sadness or state of low self esteem and has issues carrying out day to day activities. In recent years, depression has steadily became more and more of a common problem in our country. I believe that the main causes for depression becoming more of a widespread problem can be linked to school related stress, stress in the workplace, and personal problems in someone’s life.
School related stress can cause teenagers and young adults to sometimes become frustrated and ultimately begin to feel helpless. The school work is a big part in stress, but it is not the only thing that causes the stress that leads to depression. The stimulus of the environment such as the other students, sport teams, and after school events or activities can cause stress on top of the school work that leads to depression. Being around other students can induce stress because of wanting to fit in, feeling inferior, or even getting bullied. Being a teenager and having a job in my opinion can cause way too much stress for a teen to carry because of having to balance school, home life, or any extra curricular activities. Most jobs will not care about working a teen past 10:00 on a school night, but doing this will cause the teenager to come home and work on any homework they had for school and not get enough sleep making them tired for school and not being able to stay awake to pay attention. Some teenagers do not have a job, but they do have chores. Chores can also lead to stress if they worry about if they are doing a good enough job or meeting the standards that their parents have made. This can become increasingly difficult if they are also dealing with personal issues as
