Teenagers love money. However, the problem with earning money is that kids are too busy to get a job. Or a job is not enough money for their needs, especially in this changing economy. Jeffrey Selingo, in his piece “Why More Teenagers and College Students Need to Work While in School,” argues that more kids should work while pursuing their education. He expresses the importance of finding time for a job, and that making money is not the only thing teenagers gain from a job.
Author Jeffrey Selingo creates a compelling argument to persuade readers that more teenagers and college students should be in the workplace alongside their education. This point is made with a range of particular features of examples, ideas, and stylistic elements. Aspects that are seen include direct quotes, facts, displays of data, and input from outside sources. The evidence can conclude that the main point of this text is to persuade the audience that working while in school is not only helpful but a viable option for a student's future. To begin, Selingo includes a variety of evidence to support his claim.
Employers are also another big factor of this situation. “The second reason why teens work less today is that employers are more reluctant to hire them .” Jobs have gotten harder and harder and aren't as easy as they used to be for teens. Employers want the exact right person who won’t be lazy on the job, such as being on their phone checking social media or not helping a customer. Employers also don’t want someone who will affect the work environment in a negative way.
The reality is that this new generation of teens are expected to be more like adults. Many kids that attend high school are also working a job, in multiple extracurriculars working hard for college acceptance, playing sports, and hanging out with friends. According to Dr. Gale Gross, this type of constant activity and persistent deadlines “can add a tremendous amount of stress to anyone, not just teens”. With this added stress teens can become sleep deprived and end up becoming cynical about life, especially school (Huffington post).
The article,”Teenagers’ Work Can Have Downsides” written by Jerald G. Bachman, discusses many advantages and disadvantages of working as a teenager. Although, Bachman has good reasonings for both sides, teenagers should be able work. There are good outcomes that come from teenagers having a job, they can learn many useful skills that they can use in the future. They could be saving up money to help pay for college. Having a job can help students become more responsible.
It is very important for the teacher to go over the homework and also parent involvement has a big effect on completion rates. I believe teacher and parent expectations are essential for students to learn good homework habits. Because of the demographics at the school I worked at, I decided to make homework optional. I don’t believe this should be the norm at every school. The community and demographics at some schools may have a better outcome when it comes to assigning homework.

Fast food is often the first job choice among teen-agers. Whether it’s the notion that the work is easy, or it is the easiest option for them. Either way, more adolescents are moving into the fast food industry, which bares the question: Is it logical for teens to work while still in high school? It is actually beneficial for adolescents to work in the fast food industry while still in school. This is due to the exposure to work environments they attain, working is now safer than it has been in the past, and they gain necessary and valuable skills that will be used for the rest of their working career.
Sounds like an ideal afternoon right? If only all schools never gave homework. Homework is used in a lot of countries and in others there isn’t any. Some people believe it helps improve grades and scores. Others think kids should not have homework because it doesn’t help them and use standardized tests to support them.
Homework. It’s arguably the thing children dread the most. Children go to school for eight hours a day and then are expected to come home and do school work. However, without homework people wouldn’t remember what they learned in class. Homework gives kids the chance to prove what they have learned.
Above all, homework allows the students to gain responsibility, time-management, perseverance, and self-esteem. “The act of completing homework has benefits in terms of developing good habits in students.” This shows that, students are gaining many skills from homework. This also shows that, homework isn’t a waste of time and students do benefit from homework. “Homework also teaches students how to problem solve, think independently, and build an understanding and interest for the issues in our society.”
