Life Story of Derek Montoya
This person has been with me my whole life. He respected me, loved me, and everything between. If you’re wondering who, well it’s my dad (Derek Montoya). His early life was a little bit rough, but in the end it’s amazing! His life could’ve been nothing, but it’s everything.
My dad grew up in Denver, Colorado. He lived with his mom and dad until he was 3. Something unspeakable happened, his mom and dad got divorced. After that my dad moved in with his dad and lived in Colorado until he was 12 years old. He then moved to Mesa, Arizona and attended Powell Junior High in the year of 1983. My dad was involved in many activities at Powell Junior High like choir, cross country, track, and drama. Most of his friends he met in choir, and still has those friends to this day, which is one of the most biggest impacts on his life. Powell Junior High was awesome to him because he got to share and have fun experiences with other people. Then a hardship began, his dad pulled him out of Powell Junior High and moved to Silver City, New Mexico. He and his dad lived in Silver City, New Mexico for 2 years and moved back up to Arizona where he graduated from Dobson High School in 1989.

It was a very difficult transition, independence of being alone, making his own decisions, and was very stressful not having family close including his one very own favorite sibling Felima, who is strong and amazing. Soon enough, his only kid came along: Makayla (or as I should say me). My dad felt excited, scared, and proud when I was born.
