Please describe a specific occasion when you have intervened to take control of a situation.
Why was it necessary to intervene in the situation?
Within coaching, it is of the utmost importance that we as coaches, coach with a high degree of integrity in order to gain confidence from participants and students with regards to how they perceive our coaching philosophy. I felt this was something my coaching partner wasn’t demonstrating when leading a session; therefore I felt it was necessary for me to intervene in order for the participants to achieve the learning outcomes.

Why was it necessary to consider a number of options before making the decision?
When delivering to a large group, it’s important that I as a coach consider what coaching styles particular groups will successfully respond to, helping both them and I achieve the maximum amount in a given time. This is achieved by building a relationship with the group and improving my knowledge on them over time. Failure to do this results in a disinterested and disengaged group who won't achieve the goals and outcomes set, making decision making a fundamental element in every session. What did you consider when identifying the options?
As stated above, my considerations lied with what coaching style the participants would best respond to. The three coaching styles that were under consideration were Autocratic (telling), Democratic (guiding), and Laissez-Faire (Minding). Factors such as the participant’s knowledge of the sport, ability, and temperament were also considered before making my decision.
