Brianna Whorley 2A Current Event 1 In response to the Orlando shooting, protests broke in Congress about the controversy on gun control. During this protest many republicans tried to stop the sit-in by shutting down cameras that were broadcasting the sit-in on national TV; however, democrats stood their ground by taping the speeches and posting them via periscope and Facebook. One democrat stated that, “the sit-in was breaking rules anyway.” By Wednesday afternoon many democrats and over 34 senators out of the 44 that were attendance were on the floor of the house (some literally on the floor). The republicans are not in favor of gun control, but in favor of the Second Amendment, which is the right to bear arms, while democrats are in favor of gun control. This article addresses many different opinions of liberals and conservatives. This article also addresses a flaw in our two-party system, because with the rise of democrats coming into the Senate, there will be a rise in conflicts between the two opposing parties. However, the republican representatives stand strong with their belief that they can not take away a constitutionally given right without due process. Due process is the fair treatment for all humans using the normal judicial system especially through entitlement by a citizen. The conflict between the parties is weakening the power of our national government because without Congress working together to create laws they are opposing each other. Even though this opposition may weaken us it is one of Congress 's’ implied powers. An implied power is a power that is practically given to the federal government, also known as an elastic clause. Congress’ arguments on gun control is wasting time, while they are arguing over something that may not ever be changed rather that passing new reasonable laws that can strengthen our country. The Democratic sit in was overall a failure at moving any
