Squid and Worm Essay It may not seem like the squid and the worm have much in common, but they both adapted to their environments in ways that allow them to survive. The worms live in the mud while the squid lives deep in the ocean. The worm was very successful with its digestive and reproductive abilities, but the squid was even more successful because of its ability to live at least 900ft. below sea level and still be able to get their own food without getting eaten by predators. Worms were and are very successful in adapting to their environment. They were able to go out to get food at a specific time and watch out for predators. Also, they had to get used to living underground in the soil until they knew the birds wouldn’t be out so that they could get their own food. They use, their eight arms and two tentacles to capture food and bring to their mouth. They use ink from their ink sack to try and scare away predators. They use fins that are located on their heads to propel themselves while swimming at slow speeds. They use their color changing abilities to attract female squids. Once they mate, the female lays the eggs down onto a specific spot. Once the eggs are laid, the female dies and soon after the male dies. The squid’s life span is short, about a year. The adaptations for squids were even more useful than the worms because they had a better chance at surviving. The squids had many ways of chasing away their predators while the worms did not.
