1. Describe the essential aspects of a self-directed, intrinsically motivated, active learner?
A self-directed, intrinsically motivated, active learner possesses numerous essential features that help one to excel on their studies. Being a intrinsically motivated, one will continuously push themselves in desire to achieve the goal that they have set on their own. Being self-directed, one would be able to take initiative of their own goal and become self-discipline to learn with enthusiasm to fulfill their curiosity. Being an active learner, one would be able to learn from experiencing and with interest. Identify two areas of personal strength and two areas of personal weakness in being a self-motivated and engaged student.
Being a self-motivated and engaged student, it has both limitations and advantages. Personally, two strength I can have as a self-motivated student are self-discipline and curiosity. Being able to discipline oneself, a lot can be achieved. Majority of the time, students can easily get distracted from studies. Yet with self-discipline, it will always keep me on track. Knowing what needs to be done, I would limit myself from distraction and concentrate on my studies. Furthermore, it would always keep myself to be objective, allowing me to see and work harder and push myself. Having a curiosity is an essential factor for learners. Without sense of curiosity, one will never learn. Questions are critical aspect in learning. I always throw myself a challenging question so it keeps me attentive at all times. Curiosity allows me to be challenged and result to widen my perspective and knowledge. In my opinion, having too high of a standard and being a high achiever is my weakness when it comes to learning. Being highly motivated, I have a standard that meets my motivation. I always push myself to do better. There are pros and cons of having high standard. At times, I am too harsh on myself. I plan my life and move forward accordingly. I make myself a long list of ‘TO DO LIST’ and follow the list, crossing out what I have managed to do. I prioritize my list and try to follow as close as I can. Nonetheless, in the past, there were times when the plans did not go as I had expected. When it didn’t go as expected, I’d be overly anxious and have some sort of panic attack. Learning from my past, I’ve managed to make myself a new list which contains ‘plan B’. That way, if plan A doesn’t work, I would not panic but move forward with my plan B. This allows me to not only think ahead but also be responsible for my actions that would result to the outcome of my set goal. I always tell myself, “No one can live my life better than myself”. Moving forward with this quote I have for my life, despite the outcome of my actions, I’m always grateful for it. Failure will enhance me and success will drive
