Factors that lead up to confederation was that firstly, Newfoundland had feared that the French wouldn’t only use Newfoundland fish station, in contrast to something more. Which is why they wanted to be a part of the union thus, they could be protected. Additionally, another factor that leads up to confederation was the Fenian Raids joined as one because the Fenians were raiding each colony of BNA, hence, they come together to become a stronger force of defense. Moreover, intercolonial trade lead to unionize as the price from BNA were very cheap but then started to become expensive as a result united because they wanted to combine their resources in order to grow their economy and to also to consider that they couldn’t always rely on Britain
