1. What is Metaphysics as it relates to religion? How and why is this relevant today?
Metaphysics is used in philosophy as well as religion, in religion metaphysics refers to a type of colonial religion that still finds itself present in the twenty-first century. Believers usually either silence their personal notions or God or avoid God by instead looking to a different extraordinary power that believers trust help them with their lives. Metaphysical religion also focuses on the mind as a “saving force.” Metaphysics is still very prominent today, some forms of metaphysics saw a decline such as witchcraft however in the nineteenth century there was a new form that grew quickly. The “groundwork” as the book says, was done by the American Transcendentalists. They believed in a quest for self-culture, individuals turned to within to find harmony between themselves and the universe. Metaphysical religion is still practiced today and was the base for things such as New Thought, Scientology, and Spiritualism.

The name comes from the collective designation for Christian tradition in many churches in both Eastern Europe and Eastern Mediterranean. In 1743 Orthodox religions came to North America in Alaska where Alaskans became baptized due to a Russian soldier, later monks came as well to build a church there. In America, Orthodoxy continued as a religion especially among immigrants. Although with each generation the ties and traditions seem to lessen as new generation lose their ancestral ties and practices.
