Amir, when he was a child, was jealous of Hassan because of the amount of attention Hassan received from Baba. He wanted Baba to love him more than Hassan, but he never realized that Hassan was his brother as well. After he finally got to spend some alone time with Baba, he felt like he was missing something, or perhaps someone. Amir felt guilty about being horrible to Hassan and feels ashamed of his jealousy. Character Trait Note #5: Amir can also be seen as caring.
Many things have the same things in common, but also things that are different about one another. For instance Will Kane in the movie "High Noon" is a man who is very brave, but scared at the same time because of something he has done. Also in the book "The Most Dangerous Game" Rainsford is brave, but scared because of something he had no part of. " High Noon" and "T.M.D.G." are both similar and different at the same time.
I also think that Hassan’s passive ways have power over Amir. Amir hates that he cannot undo what he did, or have Hassan deal the same pain onto him. This makes Amir feel bad because he knows that he has hurt Hassan. While Hassan doesn 't hurt Amir back, Amir is handling things in a pragmatic way. Amir’s goal was to get rid of Hassan.
Amir makes hassan look like a thief by “planting [his] new watch and a handful of Afghani bills under [the mattress]” (Hosseini 104). Hassan knew of Amirs intentions that Amir wanted him to leave so Hassan lies and says that he stole it in order to remain loyal with his friend Amir. Thus, Hassan and his father Ali, feel like they can no longer serve Baba or Amir anymore and leave forever; Amir never sees him again. It was then that Amir realized how much of a horrible person he was and how undeserving he was to have Hassan. His father realized it was him and forgave him even though his father said “theft is unforgivable.”
During Amir’s childhood he only relates to Baba through Kites. He is not similar to his father in any way which makes him feel like there is a gap between them, but the kites fill that gap. Amir does not have a full and stable relationship with his father, and he doesn't have the best relationship with Hassan either. While he and Hassan both love the kites, Hassan is loyal to the core and Amir is unloyal from his core. Amir’s childhood was filled with many struggles, which hint at a life filled with even more struggles. As a kid Amir grew up being bullied. He would be pushed around and made fun without defending himself. His friend, Hassan, always has to stand up for him and it infuriates Amir’s dad. He is disappointed with Amir; he doesn’t think Amir is even relatively similar to him.
Whenever Amir makes decisions, one of the first thoughts is, ‘What will Baba think?’. This caused him to make very irrational decisions out of his greed for Baba’s affection such as abandoning Hassan in the alleyway. As he grows more mature though, Amir learns that his own opinion is important. Amir made Hassan do things Hassan didn’t actually feel like doing. Firing walnuts to the neighbour’s dog, for instance. Ali always got mad at Hassan when he caught them, but Hassan never told Ali that it was Amir’s idea. Amir also took advantage of Hassan’s illiteracy for his own pleasure. Amir used to read poems, riddles and stories to Hassan, but he sometimes changed the stories and Amir teased him with words Hassan didn’t know the meaning
When Amir was a young boy, he treated Hassan very poorly. He would purposely do things to tease Hassan. Because of Hassan’s innocence, he never realized how bad of a friend Amir was. Amir was selfish and self centered when other people would judge his friendship with the servant by known as Hassan.
