Deuteronomy
The last book of the Old Testament Law is called, Deuteronomy. It is part of the Torah, or Pentateuch, which contains the five books of the law. Moses wrote this book approximately 1220 BC, nearing the time of his death. Obedience is the major theme. The major personalities are Moses and Joshua. The major event is Moses’ explanation of the laws, as given by God, to prepare the new Israelite generation for transition into the Promised Land, Canaan. Moses reminds how God delivered them from Egypt and of His provision in the wilderness. Moses explains the laws in simple terms and encourages them to strictly adhere to God’s commands in order to receive the promises given them. He clearly contrasts obedience and blessing to rebellion
