Questions and Interviews Interview with Chris Hinsley of Reading Offender System ROS and Fluence on 27/07/2016 1.What evidence and what techniques do you apply to help young offenders to change their behaviour? Chris: ‘I am not entirely sure that this question applies to Rapid English. We are not directly trying to change their behaviour. The evidence around our method we have is concentrated around what parts of language is used the most so that we can concentrate on teaching that language and getting our students communicating as quickly and easily as possible. In terms of techniques our teaching method is detailed on our website and was developed by a teacher and grammar master (Norman who you spoke to). Generally helping them with their communication skills and helping them move towards their own goals in life will alter their behaviour for the positive. Also within the sessions if they are not behaving in a positive manner we will address this as during the sessions and helping them with this could mean that they behave better in school but we are not actively looking at their behaviour’’ (Interview: Chris Hinsley 27/07.2016) 2.What assessment tools are reliable in targeting the appropriate young offenders for each intervention? I do not think I understand this question can you rephrase it for me please? Chris: ‘’If you are asking …show more content…
We are aware of and advise them of education and training opportunities in the area but that is not quite the same thing. We do however definitely help them with their employability skills. Communication skills is one of the main thing employers look for in a suitable employee. So as well as helping them with their basic reading and writing skills if they are looking for work we can help them write a CV and help them with their interview technique as well as practicing potential employer phone calls among many other work related tasks’’ (Interview: Chris Hinsley
