Development Concepts Introduction The purpose of this paper is to apply developmental concepts to daily social work practice. Within this narrative, this interviewer will explore two developmental concepts that were identified during an interview with a fifty-four-year-old woman about her life. This paper will explore the link between each concept and person’s life experience. It will attempt to examine if and how her social structure, traumatic experiences and protective factors assisted in shaping her development. The two developmental notions that will be further explored are, identity and emotional intelligence. Both were significant during the interview process. Relevant biographical information The individual whom was selected for the purposes of this paper, is a 54-year-old, hard working mother of three by the name of Sonia Wesley. Tacit knowledge encompasses three styles of management, self-management, management of task and management of others. Self-management, is described as the ability to motivate oneself while organizing where you spend your time an energy. Management of task is being able to complete a task without formal training or prior knowledge and management of others is being able to appropriately reward or criticize your subordinates (Papalia & Martorell, 2015). In retrospect, Sternberg looked at tacit knowledge as the common sense of the intelligence world.
